Current Social Security and state aid laws deny financial assistance if a person has more than ,000 in assets. That also includes a car, stock, bonds, life insurance, etc. Therefore, a disabled person must sell everything he owns and spend that money before he/she can apply for assistance (which can take 2 years to receive) I may be wrong but, it sounds like the government is trying to selectively remove the disabled from society. Hmmm…I was just thinking…If I own a refrigerator that keeps my food cold, I’d have to sell it before I could apply for assistance to buy food. Does anyone see a trend here? I think our president made a mistake. He should believe in the "trickle-down" theory, not the "trickle-on" theory. Anyone suggest anything?

My wife was 37 weeks pregnant and went into labor two weeks ago. While we were preparing to go to the hospital, she started bleeding. We delivered a stillborn baby less than an hour later. Our life insurance only covers live births, so we have thousands of dollars in funeral costs that we are having difficulty paying off. Are there any foundations that offer financial assistance for funeral costs for babies?

A relative wants to put life insurance benefits from a deceased family member in my kids’ names. I’m worried that whatever amount it might be, it will interfere with their ability to receive financial aid for college later, which they certainly will need. Should I ask him to put it in my husbands’ and my names?

I have a 19 year old sister who has epilepsy. She developed a learning disability from the seazures, and it is believed to be visual as well as auditory. However, due to the high costs of testing and theraphy, she has not received treatment yet. We do have insurance, but they will not cover it; As this is treatment without medication though the Drake Institute, it’s called bio-feedback. We need assistance to help pay for her tratment. I would love to know if anyone out there can give me information on where to look for help, of if anyone has been in a similar situation, please, please let me know what you have done. Also, if you, or anyone you know has been treated through the DRAKE INSTITUTE, please share the story, as I am really hopeful this will work, but would like to hear real cases. Any words of advise will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your help!

I have a friend who has an autistic son and her husband recently lost his job so they no longer have insurance. They were paying out of pocket for their son’s ABA therapy, but can no longer afford the an hour for it. I’ve heard about Regional Centers but I’m not sure Virginia has these. Is there any other kind of financial assistance available or does anyone know if Virginia has these Regional Centers?

I have to have a hysterectomy, and have no health insurance. My husband’s income is "too much" for us to qualify for any kind of state insurance. We do receive a sliding scale at my doctor’s office (they take 25% off my bill). Is there any kind of financial aid out there to help families that don’t qualify for medicaid? I won’t die without the surgery, but raising the money will take me at least a year, and I’m already in a great deal of pain. Any ideas would be extremely helpful! Thanks much!

Other than citizens, should people on H,F,J visas, permanent residents, etc be allowed to apply for financial assistance? What if they pay taxes like "everybody else"?

Examples:
1. A permanent or temporal resident has an accident and the hospital bills are really high (even with insurance).
2. A permanent or temporal resident gets pregnant (assuming not on purpose, no method is 100% effective) and needs help with the bills.
3. A permanent or temporal resident wants to get a better education.
4. A permanent or temporal resident wants to create a non-profit organization.

Just in case, I am talking about legal residents in some country (not necessarily the US).
"Someone has agreed to sponsor and be responsible for them."
"Without sponsorship, they would not be here."

Not always true, I know at least 20 cases where it is not true. Please think before posting!

"Paying taxes is part of being/working in the US."
What are taxes for? Part of it is destined to financial assistance. I always hear, "I am an American and I do not want my money being used to help foreigners" That is just as logical as "I am a non-American and do not want my money being used to help Americans"; for me they are both silly. I have multiple citizenship and would like a less selfish world. But I said that I was not referring to any country in particular; read before posting!

"If you dont like it, leave!"

That is just as stupid as saying "If you don’t like the world, leave!". People can simply change the law. "If somebody doesn’t like it change it", that seems a more intelligent answer (not mine).
"they are NOT allowed to take it since they have a sponser set up that agreed to take financial resposibility for them."

Not always true (specially for temporal residents), I know at least 20 cases. All of them having approved financial assistance.
They ask me for "moral advise" (when they are not sure if it is the right thing to do) and I tell them ask the people in charge of giving financial assistance. They are usually told "that is why you pay taxes".

For example, there is a couple that has paid a total of about 200000 in taxes.
"NO! If you already have an opinion or know the answer to your question, please think before asking! This is a rant/chat and a violation of community guidelines…"

Everybody has opinions and answers. I simply stated facts for opinions based on incorrect assumptions that are not helpful to find the correct answer. I wanted to hear your reasons based on intelligent criteria, not based on incorrect assumptions. That is NOT
a rant/chat or a violation of community guidelines by any means. Think and read before posting please!
