If a scholarship application asks me "How much financial assistance will you require?". What should I put?
Other than citizens, should people on H,F,J visas, permanent residents, etc be allowed to apply for financial assistance? What if they pay taxes like "everybody else"?
Examples:
1. A permanent or temporal resident has an accident and the hospital bills are really high (even with insurance).
2. A permanent or temporal resident gets pregnant (assuming not on purpose, no method is 100% effective) and needs help with the bills.
3. A permanent or temporal resident wants to get a better education.
4. A permanent or temporal resident wants to create a non-profit organization.
Just in case, I am talking about legal residents in some country (not necessarily the US).
"Someone has agreed to sponsor and be responsible for them."
"Without sponsorship, they would not be here."
Not always true, I know at least 20 cases where it is not true. Please think before posting!
"Paying taxes is part of being/working in the US."
What are taxes for? Part of it is destined to financial assistance. I always hear, "I am an American and I do not want my money being used to help foreigners" That is just as logical as "I am a non-American and do not want my money being used to help Americans"; for me they are both silly. I have multiple citizenship and would like a less selfish world. But I said that I was not referring to any country in particular; read before posting!
"If you dont like it, leave!"
That is just as stupid as saying "If you don’t like the world, leave!". People can simply change the law. "If somebody doesn’t like it change it", that seems a more intelligent answer (not mine).

Not always true (specially for temporal residents), I know at least 20 cases. All of them having approved financial assistance.
They ask me for "moral advise" (when they are not sure if it is the right thing to do) and I tell them ask the people in charge of giving financial assistance. They are usually told "that is why you pay taxes".
For example, there is a couple that has paid a total of about 200000 in taxes.

Everybody has opinions and answers. I simply stated facts for opinions based on incorrect assumptions that are not helpful to find the correct answer. I wanted to hear your reasons based on intelligent criteria, not based on incorrect assumptions. That is NOT

I know about the teach grant program (where you have to serve 4 years in a low-income school otherwise you need to pay it back with interest) but I don’t really think it’s a good deal. So I was looking into other programs or grants. Do you know of any or any good websites that will refer me? I know many people have told me that there is plenty of financial assistance for students who want to become elementary teachers.
